Is the Vmoda boom pro better than the ModMic or do they sound the same? Also would one be better paired with the Phillips SHP 9500 than the other?

you get less cords with the Vmoda boom pro mic. For sound that is a bit more personal

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

well they sound a bit different

For my use the mod mic would be better, because I have a lot of headphones, if you only have the SHP9500 then the Vmoda would look cleaner

If you go with the ModMic you get our awesome support :D (Like being able to DM me directly on this forum) - but as long as people are using the headphones they love over buying headsets I am happy.

The biggest difference is simply what works with the Boompro and what doesn't and the difference in cable management.

The only thing is that the boom pro is much cheaper than the ModMic and they sound very similar... What makes the ModMic better?

You'll have 1 cable instead of two if you're headphones use a detachable cable and doesn't use a proprietary connector like on some (Or all idk) Sennheiser headphones.

Well, @kol has it right, but I want to clarify that the Boompro will cut  you down to 1 cable but it does not work with a fair number of headphones.

Additionally the ModMic's clasp system makes it a lot easier to detach, move, and store. It also gives you some more unusual options, such as affixing it to a desk or table.

The ModMic also offers a noise-cancelling model for noisy environments. That is NOT the one you hear above. You will lose some sound quality as a result, but you gain a decent amount of noise isolation.

This video does an excellent job of showing the difference between uni and omni directional ModMics.

A lot of the differences beyond that are pretty minor, like the more flexible boom... but really it comes down to support you get from a cool Portland company more than anything. I won't be offended regardless of your choice!
