Buy Sell Trade Server

Hey guys, just wanted to talk about my new server setup. I wasn't actually looking for a server, but I found a nice one on a buy sell trade local thing. It's a supermicro motherboard with dual 771 sockets. They both contained an Intel Xeon E5405 core and came with 24 Gb of error correcting ram. They sweetened the deal with some extra sata cables, a 17" monitor, and some extra VGA cables for more monitors. While this setup is a bit older, I got it for around $125. You never know what type of computer components people will post on these types of places so if your looking for some deals, check out the app OfferUp. (Photos to come soon)

This sounds like a bad ad for the app.

Stay away. Those are hot and loud and missing some features.

Id try to get something like a dell r710. There much better and not much more.

Well crap, already have it. Heat isn't really an issue due to the rack mounting, especially since I'm only running low end things like minecraft servers and websites. The missing features worries me, though I do know it supports virtualization.

They are simply inefficient in comparison to anything relatively recent.

An R710 server can usually be found for a similar price with basic parts on it (I sold a few for $200/ea awhile back).

It's certainly a usable system but they do cost (a lot) more in energy to run.

Yeah, I wasn't actually looking for a server, but I saw it for the cheap, and figured it would be more than plenty to run my minecraft server so I can stop using a vps. Besides that, just using it as a server to communicate with my raspberry pi on my new POS system.
