Got a new mouse today and it works fine. Was pretty odd on how the other one died.

My typing seemed all over the place so i'll edit this and put it in point form.

  • Started happening all of a sudden with no warning.
  • The mouse (Razer taipan) and keyboard (logitech k120) would disconnect and reconnect a few seconds later.
  • This went on till I used compressed air to clean the ports and mouse.
  • This fixed it for a few hours till both stopped working out of no where.
  • Tried all usb ports.
  • Narrowed down to keyboard works by itself and as soon as i plug the mouse in it stops the keyboard from working if in the other usb 2.0 port.
  • Tried mouse in other computer, it will randomly work. Sometimes have power w/ no function and sometimes full function. Usually though it doesn't work.
  • I have a backup mouse (Razer naga molten) I stopped using as main mouse due to double clicking all the time. Both computers cannot recolonize usb device, could be due to it being over 3 yrs old and dormant for a year.
  • Tried a cold boot or w/e its called (uplugged and held power till mobo and gpu light went out before turning on)
  • Tried booting into safe mode and mouse doesn't work and still kills other usb 2.0 port.
  • Doesn't work in Xim3, gives inefficient power error. (shouldn't happen as mouse doesn't req power like a blackwidow or g15
  • Cord has no physical damage.
  • I got the mouse and keyboard to work at the same time on the laptop, its extremely touchy though and I have to hold the usb in as far as it will go which is odd because neither connection is visually damaged. I tried it on my computer and it wont even try to recognize the mouse while the keyboard works fine in the same 2.0 ports just fine.

Things recently done prior to this happening.

* My windows update is set to auto download and install, i don't know if there were any windows updates during the time.

  • Windows updated to 8.1
  • reinstalled gpu drivers because of 8.1 messing with them
  • MSI bios update to 1.60
  • Installed Glary utilities
  • Game updates via steam
  • Everything was moved from old desk to table then to new desk after it was set up.
  • Checked to make sure everything worked and was plugged in, browsed reddit and Youtube before bed.
  • Turn computer off to go to bed
  • Wake up, turn computer on and problems start.

try removing both drivers and devices. Then connect both again. It sounds like mouse end usb could be damaged but that doesn't explain why second mouse has same problem.

The mouse drivers are not listed while the mouse is unplugged, If i plug it into a usb 2.0 port (my mobo only has 2 2.0) it kills the keyboard and makes it unusable. plugging it into a 3.0 wont kill it but also wont do anything or even try registering the device with the computer where my other computer it will play a sound and then go off after a second.

Edit: I plugged it into the other computer again, it has power and lit up but it doesn't work. Since it has power im looking for how to factory reset so it uses the computers driver over its own onboard driver.

edit2: Cant find a factory reset for this mouse, manual doesn't list one like it did for the naga.
