As someone who has dual r9 290s... No.

Crossfire and SLI make more games worse than they do improve performance, I can't even remember the last time I actually turned on crossfire for a game. (though the fact that just one of my 290s runs all the games I play at Ultra 60 fps doesnt help with that)

look at the minimum FPS. that is the one you will be annoyed with when playing a game. the 2X480's are only 2 PFS higher than a single 1070, and the 2X470s are worse for minimum FPS than a single 1070. I have yet to meet any gamer that will recommend two GPUs

CF/SLI isnt really worth it due to the fact that games scale differently. In one, it could work well, in another, there could be no differnce at all. Also higher power usage and stuttering.

As someone wo used to have dual 290s and now has a 290 paired with a 290X, yes it is amazing.

Though not all games support crossfire, of course, you'll find that the games that don't are uaually the ones that can be maxed out with a single graphics card.

But the ones that do, will have their performance close to doubled.

Not sure why @Chasem121 is against it, but I have been able to run many games at high settings thanks to crossfire, and never had any issues with it.
