Best $/WU folding machine?

I want to build a new computer for the purposes of folding. I don't care about any other performance... I can always switch things up for gaming or editing at a later time. I don't have a particular budget. I want the best dollar to folding performance so I won't spend $5000 the most powerful GPU ever but I will spend more if the card is a better value than a cheaper card.

what does folding benefit from the most? good GPU or CPU, and how well does is scale over cores? if you give me that then i might come up with something, tho there is probably someone who knows it better lol

From what I know, folding is more CPU intensive than anything else.  You will likely want to overclock the processor for better performance.

 

I recommend something like a 6700K or a 6800K.  The 6700K is faster in terms of core clock speed, but the 6800K has 6 cores and a slightly lower clock speed.

I would spend all of my money on the CPU and cooling.  Water cooling would be optimal, but I wouldn't do it unless you're a pro.  I wouldn't want to mess up my expensive processor.

I recommend you first NVIDIA GPU. NVIDIA CUDA folding code is extremely well optimized to use maximum GPU processing resources.

Earlier was AMD better than NVIDIA.

GTX 1070 or 1060 probably. You can look at price to performance ratios from gaming benchmarks, it will work out to about the same in folding.
