Hey there guys!

So after a really long time I finally bought a new GPU: The Nvidia GTX 670.

I know it is a card from a generation ago but it was only 200 euros.

The first thing I did after installing my drivers was installing FAH again!

For no clear reason I could not get my old GPU to work with FAH and after 4 days of trying I gave up.. But I'm back!

I have a couple of questions:

- From everything I read it seems that CPU folding isn't really worth it, is this true?

- Is that F@H Icon thing automated or do I have to ask someone to add it to my account?

- is only mining with a 670 worth the energy bill?

Luuk

1. You don't need to summon Whaler for every little thing that you maybe don't know. @LuukvanA with your cpu I would say go for it, you'll get about 15k points or something and the most important part is that it will fold and contribute to the cause so that's good.

2. Badges don't have anything to do with your amount of points (at least these current ones don't), but more how active you are. That said, it seems we will be getting new badges really soon. I think the current ones will stay since they are representing activity and the new ones are going to represent the amount of points you gather.

3. Did you mean folding or mining?

1. Ah ok, I will take a look at that!

2. We will see how it will turn out, the badges are definetely not the most important thing about folding!

3. Folding, sorry!

Thank you very much for your reply!

you don't make anything off of folding. The card will do well, just setup your client to be eligible for Core 17 (The latest set of them) projects : http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1091-for-folding-users-tips-tricks-and-faq-updated-oct-2013/

Come fold while not gaming! http://linustechtips.com/main/forum/37-foldinghome-boinc-and-coin-mining/

Gaming Rig: i7-9700k 5GHz all core, GTX 1070, 16GB TridentZ, Buncha ssds...

Exactly, folding is basically volunteer work. And about the power draw, here's a link to an article on tomshardware.com where 7 different 670's have been tested and compared the power draw with some amd cards http://bit.ly/1cfnRoc so you might find exact numbers there.

hallo luuk en welkom terug :) hello luuk and welcome back :)

@BenDreadful

The 670 would get more then 15k points i think with a core 17 project 60K to 70K and with a core15 only  20K to 25K. butt PPD not credit. My 2GTX 660TI's ar getting an average about 120K to 140K with a core 17 and with a Core15 50K to 60K only

But luuk dount count on getting core17 anymore! because yeah i have been getting only core15 projects 3 weeks in a row. they have made core17 to AMD only i think.

@LuukvanA

with F@H you will help making protiens to help develope medicine to cancer and so on... but yeah till now no cure has been founded yet! But there will be a breakthrough one day. like the big bang.

no not quite why? cpu's have a different kind of folding protiens so they are worth it.

He said that in his original post to which I answered that he would get around 15k with his CPU. (CPU, not GPU)

There are still core 17 for NVidia - I get them... but the pool may be drying up... hopefully some new ones soon. This happened a few months ago as they transitioned from Beta to Advanced...

Superchill! This is like the only charity like organisation i will 'donate' to since it is the only one that I trust for actually using the 'donations' properly!

  • Bronze Contributor - when the stats are checked and you have contributed more than 1 Million points, your badge will be updated to this. This reflects your serious and continued support of the team.
  • Silver Contributor - when the stats are checked and you have contributed more than 25 Million points, your badge will be updated to this. This reflects your serious and continued support of the team and your very generous donation of resources.
  • Gold Contributor - when the stats are checked and you have contributed more than 100 Million points, your badge will be updated to this. This reflects your dedication and continued support of the team and your very generous donation of resources. You are now a legend!
  • Platinum Contribute - when the stats are checked and you have contributed more than 500 Million points, your badge will be updated to this, and we don't even know what it is! :)
