SSD on Android Tablet?

Hello,

 

I know this is incredibly ludicrous! However, I believe it is still a good question! By the way, this is my first post in here! Ok, so I was playing Asphalt 8 on my Samsung Tablet. Suddenly realized how annoying is the loading time (they are not annoying, but I wanted to think outside the box and try to improve those loading times.). So I closed as many processes and I could, lowered the settings of the game at it lowest, limited the maximum running processes to 1 (Yea this surprisingly affected the game speed overall) and that was pretty much.  From nowhere, I decided to "benchmark" the writing and reading speeds of my tablet's MMC, here're the results.

 

R: 40.18Mb/s

W: 8.41Mb/s

 

Ashamed? Prob not. I wasn't expecting a lot, to be honest. So here's the question. If I find a way to get an app to boot entirely from another storage drive, will my loading times improve?

 

e.g. Let's say I get a micro sd card with higher writing and reading speeds and I make the game boot entirely (not sure if just moving in into a sd card will "completely boot from it."), will the game load faster?

If it does, then, If I get a Portable SSD (Samsung T3 250 GB 450Mb read/write speed) will that loading times even improve more? Or I will get bottlenecked?

Edit: I wouldn't mind buying a portable SSD since I could also use it for my others (compatible) devices !

I doubt that this will work. Even Android doesn't let you run entire programs off of microSD cards as they are slower than the built in flash memory on the tablet's mobo

Thanks for the fast reply! How do you know that Android doesn't let you run entire programs of microSD cards? How to test that? (Not questioning you or anything ! LOL! Just asking to know!!)

they generally store unimportant app data e.g. pictures, etc. And the actual guts of the app are kept on the internal storage, Moving to sd card generally only moves extra files there - but, if you rooted your phone, and used es file explorer, im sure there's someway you could cut all the app data from the apps folder and move it to the ssd, but the issue is that the ssd (assuming it's otg) won't always be plugged in, when you remove it, it will uninstall the game, that's why games aren't completely on the ssd/sd card, because every time you remove it and plug it back in, the app has to be uninstalled and then installed again

there's also the threat that if you don't unmount and uninstall teh game properly, if you accidentaly leave it open in the background and your ssd somehow becomes unconnected, it will corrupt the game and possibly even the ssd

Great! Good info! But the real important question is assuming everything works wells; It will not get bottlenecks? LOL

lets assume you somehow get all of teh game onto the ssd, it won't really bottleneck - although that depends on the transfer speed or your microusb or lightning connector

My phone lets me play games off my MicroSD Card. Its like a 950 Pro+ SDHC Card tho

I had an older android phone that could install apps to SD card, but i think that was a cyanogenmod feature.
