Recommended m.2 1TB ssd

Hello, I'm looking into buying an m.2 ssd preferably looking into the capacity of 1tb. I was wondering what are some recommended good m.2 ssds. If possible I would love the m.2 ssd to be overall black colored and not the green colored pcb to look nice my pc build.

I just found these drives this morning. I AM ALL IN !!!!! So yes, I second the 960 Pro recommendation.

 

But 1 TB is a bit much. I'm going for the 512 GB version.

There are other options that are much cheaper (and slower, of course).

 

The Samsung 850 EVO is also a great option. You can get the 1 TB version for about the price of the 960 Pro 512 GB (~$350).

 

To be honest I'm on the fence. $350 is a lot for one hard drive. Yeah the speed is ludicrous, but it adds zero frame rates over a modern SSD. Remember that...

You could also check out WD Blue SSD . It should work perfectly fine.

 

What are you going to do on your system? Any specific applications or usage-types? 

Mind that you should check if your motherboard supports NVMe SSDs or it will limit the M.2 to AHCI performance.

Thanks for the input! That is also a nice option too!

 

It's actually a small form-factor build. I wanted to just utilize the m.2 slot on the Z170I Pro Gaming motherboard from Asus.

Well, according to this and this topics people have managed to use NVMe drives on this motherboard. I'd still try to research more and even contact the manufacturer of the motherboard for this to be sure if and how you can run a true NVMe drive an not run on AHCI settings bottlenecking the performance of a NVMe drive.
