I am trying to create a minecraft server for me and my friends to play on, but I have a dynamic IP, so no one will be able to connect to the server. I definitely do not want to change it to a static IP, and I wonder how I'll be able to do that. Do any of you have any suggestions?

I also have dynamic IP and my friends can connect to me without problems. The problem could be with ports. Have you forwarded your MC server port and does your ISP even allow to forward ports?

Sorry, I wasnt really clear in what I was saying. I want to know if there was a way to set it up so the server IP doesnt change, and I dont have to give them a different IP.

I might have just ported wrong though. Are there any tutorials that you would suggest?

I have a dynamic IP as well, and I can host servers. Your public IP doesn't change very often, so you should be able to have your friends connect just fine. And when it does change, it's only the last 3 numbers, from what I have observed.

Either buy a host or just sometimes you will have to give them another IP... For me the IP only changes like twice a year...

Do you know how many times it changes for Verizon?

I also have a dynamic IP and host a mc server. It only changes about once per 2 weeks though so it isn't much of a problem. You can always make a free website for your server and include an updated IP whenever it changes.

But is there a way to make it automated?

just go to http://www.noip.com/ , sign up a free DNS name, download the DUC client, which then automatically updates your Ip adress every 5 minutes (have to be open all time, can be minimized to tray, autostart available) then you give your friends the no-ip "Ip" (e.g mygreatserver.no-ip.biz) and with this ip they always will be able to connect to your server (considering your Ports are open)

You need to make and account at http://www.noip.com/ and install the program.. it will give you a free URL and will automatically detect when your ip changes.
