Ok, sorry for the clickbait. There is nothing wrong with using displayport for 144hz screens.

Anyway, here's my situation: i just bought a 144hz screen, i have no gpu (using the integrated 530 gpu), and my motherboard does not have a dp port. I have a dp cable.

And this is the issue: i want to be able to play at 144hz refresh rate obviously. So what is the best way to get a dp port? Are there expasion cards that will allow me to plug it in and use my integrated gpu? Or is the best bet a new gpu(r9 380 or something newer)? Pretty much any gpu that has a dp on it will do (as long as it's not ugly af). If you want to give suggestions on gpu's, please only ones under 180$.

Thanks!

You won't  be able to use 144hz on an igpu anyways. Just save up for a 1050 ti

I am aware of that it wont run most games. But i play team fortress 2 competitively, and thats pretty much all i play. I have tested before and can get solid 180 fps in this game.

Getting a new graphics card is really the only option. RX 470 is a good option for your budget.

Thanks for the help. I'm gonna save my money for that or the 1050Ti. Also gonna ask some people i know if they have a spare card with a displayport on.

Just to be sure, will any graphics card with a displayport allow me to run in 144hz if i buy something used?

Dvi-d will do 144hz as well. Can you connect over that? A dvi cable run a $10 tops. Almost every panel I've seen that uses DP uses dvi also.

Otherwise yeah, just about any GPU will push 144hz, tho you might not see the frame rate to match the refresh.
