I recently just did a clean install of my OS, like I do every six months. Recently within those six months I added an extra 8 gigs of ram to my system in addition original 8 gigs for a total of 16 gigs. When I re-installed I saw that I was very low on space on my 64 gig SSD. It turns out that my page file is 16 gigs, equal to the physical ram as usual. I was wondering, do I really need a 16 gig page file? Should I reduce it to a lower size? I don't want to completely disable it just in-case I need it. But should I reduce it to like 4-6 gigs. Thanks in advance.

i would say reduce it to 2gb minimum, 8gb maximum ,page file is needed for windows and apps to run without issues.

There are people who swear by having no page file at all. Afaik you only really need one for dump files.

I have an 800MB page file on my slowest drive, which is the minimum amount for Windows to still be able to make dump files and do all the other (afaik handy if non-essential) stuff that it uses the page file for. There's not a lot of point having a large page file anymore if you have a lot of RAM - and it's almost certainly a bad idea to have a large page file (or one at all) on an SSD if you can avoid it.

Never fully disable Page File.

Unless you are like me. And have 32GB of RAM. /jk

But seriously, I think you should set the minimum to 2GB and the max to 8GB like previously suggested. That sounds like a good plan. That way, it only takes up 2GB unless it needs more.
