HTPC Video card replace or upgrade?

jefferz

I'm trying to decide which option would be better for me.  I'm currently using a Radeon 5670 video card but it is dying and the onboard video, HD3300, won't play 1080 smoothly.

So I'm looking at a couple different options. My budget is $120US max.

The only thing it's used for is Kodi and other streaming at 1080p.  I already have a gaming PC so there will be no upgrading this pc.  Which option would be the best or is there something else out there that would be better?

Current build:
Athlon x4 640
ECS A790GGM-AD3 mobo
8gb generic ram
SeaSonic G series 550w PSU
Antec Three Hundred case
Hyper 212
Windows 10

i'd just get the cheapest gpu from the newest generation, that would be fine for 1080p streaming

Even the 5350 craps out at 1080p60. I know. I own one. It shares its case with a GTX 750 Ti now.

If you want to game at all, go for the 460/1050. If you don't and you want to stay in that $30-40 range, troll Craigslist for a used GT 730, 710 or even a 210 (shouldn't be more than $20 for a 210). You can buy a new 710 for $40, but...why? The 6450 is not worth the price, even at $30.

It will never be used for gaming.  Newegg has this GT 710 for $28.  Would this work?

I would think so. GDDR5 would be better, but I'd think that card is plenty.
