EVGA GTX 1060 Gaming cooling

SCHISCHKA

So I wasn't impressed at my EVGA GTX 1060 cooling. I couldn't find any decent pictures online before purchasing my card so Ill make somewhat of a teardown here.

this is the card:

http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=06G-P4-6161-KR

no heat pipes

its about half the size of an old core2duo heatsink

the cover is not required for operation (see below)

to remove the cover there are four screws underneath the fan blades - that is all

I guess i got what i paid for, and I would recommend spending a few extra dollars to get the dual fan models with heat pipes and more RAM.

************

Running the card without its cover makes it run 5 degrees C hotter at idle, but i have not added any extra fans to it.

The heatsink mounting holes are not compatible with any other heatsink i own

************

i need to find another way of cooling without spending money

So uh.. for reference, what temps were you getting before you removed the cover?

idle is 60 degrees Celsius. it maxes at 83 degrees C before throttling hence my disappointment at the crappy cooler. I don't know what my ambient room temperature is. My CPU is 8120 with a passive cooler master hyper v600 (no fans), but iv got 3X fans intake and one exhaust near the CPU so the CPU heat shouldn't be too much of a problem. My old cards never ran this hot. I had a 210 silent, a 9800GTX+ and a EVGA GT 710 running in this setup without this level of thermal throttling. the 9800GTX+ is suppose to be a hot card but i do have an aftermarket cooler on it

I should say it idles between 53 and 60 degrees C and throttles around 83 C

the dual fan 1060 6gb didn't work out?

i didn't buy the 6GB version, i just wanted the cheapest card available that could play CSGO & had a display port; because I bought a new monitor and i want to wait for next year's cards to come out

this is NZ's cheapest supplier https://www.pbtech.co.nz/search?sf=EVGA+GTX1060

the price will seem high to you because its in NZD, it costs more to buy things in NZ, and we pay 15% GST on all our goods.

I paid NZD$330 for mine, the price has since gone up.

the 6GB SC is an extra $100

the two fan model is $150 more

There's still a 3GB SC; I think (assuming you have a 3GB card) that you have the 1060 3GB non SC, which from the product page on evga's website seems to have the same cooler as the one picture here.

Assuming you didn't break any warranty stickers, maybe you could return it and get a sc?
