Hey guys, I've got an interesting question I'd been thinking about lately.

What people think has been the best ever GPU by generation. This isn't a question about what single GPU beat another single GPU. But more a question of what are peoples opinion regarding what they think was the most impactful architecture, feature rich and dominating generation of GPU's ever made by either ATI/AMD or Nvidia.

I have done 3 separate Straw Polls.

1st, Do you think ATI/AMD, Nvidia or Other lays claim to having produced the best generation.

Company - http://www.strawpoll.me/11492903

2nd/3rd is a separation of ATI/AMD & Nvidia generations for everyone to vote on which generation hold this honor.

Nvidia Strawpoll - http://www.strawpoll.me/11492843

ATI/AMD Strawpoll - http://www.strawpoll.me/11492966

Please vote & comment on why you think that generation was your pick.

Why are you using strawpoll instead of the built in forum poll function....

I personally pick the Geforce 6 series as the crown. Runner up being the Radeon X1000 for very similar points to below.

These are my 3 main points.
- First generation to re-introduce Multi GPU support since 3DFX
- Architecture was almost a 100% improvement over the previous FX series.
- First generation of GPU to Introduce PCI-E.

The Polls are being linked elsewhere as well so they needed to be external ink friendly.

Yes I know some of you will also vote for GPU's outside of the ATI/Nvidia war. There is an option

holy shit , one of us,  one of us. I was so confused. xD

Dude... you can vote multiple timesnever mind then my evil plan ruined

lol. You can vote on each poll once. not on 1 poll multiple times. :P

So if you are really into voting for your potato. you can do so hehe

There is a good number of 10 Series votes. What makes the 10 series so special over the rest?

i liked the gtx 580 (fermi) and HD 7970 for its CPU like architecture and GCN's unrestricted double FP. Overclock a bunch of HD 7970s and you will have many teraflops of double FP for cheap. Newer generations of AMD GPUs have artificially limited it like nvidia.

Totally agree, the 7970 has a monster of a GPU. GCN in my top 5 forsure.

ATI HD 5xxx series was pretty awesome. ATI beat nVidia to releasing there line-up and even being several months late nVidia were very in-efficient compared to the ATI offerings. HD 5xxx series was also the first series to offer eyefinity. This was a huge series for ATI with so much brought to the table for the consumer.

For nVidia the GTX 9xx series was pretty special. Very refined with performance that was hard to beat even after effectively 2 die shrinks. The efficiency was also through the roof to go with the already insanely high performance. It'll be a while before we see something like this series again.

I still have the ATI 5870 with the eyefinity 6 which essentially has 6 display ports on a single card. I did like the 5xxx series because while it did have 1 tesselation unit disabled and wasnt that great at graphics it was good at running openCL. Luxmark is fast on it.
