Blender weird texture behavior

I am creating this simple object in Blender for someone on the DeviantArt website and when I started to texture it using a transparent texture, I am getting this weird behavior whereby the texture has the black background around it still and it looks like there's another one beneath it. The image should explain it.

@JurunceNKSometimes in blender theres issues if you extrude and then right-click to cancel the extrude as it will only cancel the moving task of the extruding bit, i would reccomend to check to make sure theres not two layers on top of eachother.

Don't worry, I managed to use a different set of effects to now blend the background of the texture with the texture of the cup itself. Here's the final result
