Okay really need some help here. I just got a new 240GB SSD to replace my old 120GB one. I migrated all my OS files and stuff onto the new drive and it all went fine. However, every now and then I kept getting a sudden boost of the SSD activity to 100%, but with 0KB/s read and write. The 2TB HDD remained doing nothing. So I tried repairing windows, nothing changed. Tried resetting windows and keeping files. Nothing changed. I've now reinstalled windows completely and it still happens! I have resource monitor open, everything is normal there, until the drive starts getting 100% usage, then everything under "Disk" in RS disappears. This never happened with the old drive and I'm not running anything new that I wasn't before. Anyway have any clue what's going on?

I ilke trains.

Run crystaldiskinfo to see the condition of the SSD.

Have you made sure all windows updates are installed?

what uses 100% ssd?

try ssd firmware update

I can't tell what's using 100% of the disk, resource manager shows nothing running, task manager says everything is using 0.0MB/s and I am unable to use the PC while the disk usage is at 100%.

Do you mean resource monitor?

It should show what processes are using the disk if you go to the disk information tab.

Also, did you remove your other drive while installing windows? What is on the other drive?

Did you delete all partitions before clean installing windows on the SSD?

Sorry yeah Resource Monitor. It normally does, however when the drive usage goes up, it shows nothing(i've attached screenshots) I didn't remove the HDD when installing, however that just has my pictures, music, documents etc on. The other SSD was removed as soon as I had everything on the new one, the old one is now in a laptop. And yes i deleted all the partitions on the new drive when I reinstalled.

Ok well I've never seen this happen before.

The only thing I can think of causing this issue is that you didn't unplug the other drive while installing.

Sometimes that causes issues with windows and it accidentally puts partitions in the wrong places or searches for partitions that don't exist.

If nobody else can find a solution, what I would do is just clean install again and this time have everything except the SSD plugged in while installing windows.

Deleting all the partitions is the right thing to do, although I'm not sure why you had to delete anything if it was a new SSD, because new SSDs don't have any partitions...

Just to make sure you know, these are the things that need to be deleted while installing:

Image result for windows install partitions

Click delete on everything, all that will be left is "unallocated space" which can't be deleted, then you select that and click next.

Also, after installing windows you should leave it on after the first boot for a few hours to let it detect and install any necessary drivers, then go to settings, install windows updates, and restart.

The SSD only had partitions on because i replicated my old one onto it so I could easily swap them to avoid reinstalling. I'll try and find a solution because I don't feel like going through the trouble or reinstall windows and programs and settings and stuff.
