Audiophile media player?

So I was wondering, since for no reason my 100 euro sound card software doesn't have an equalizer, what kind of media players do you guys use.

I use Windows media player, which doesn't really have a proper eq either. also the organising in WMP is horrible.

Also, Creative says that the soundcard can drive headphones up to 330 Ohms, since my pair is near that (250 ohms) can I benefit from a better DAC?

Soundcard: Creative Soundblaster X-fi HD

Headphones: Beyerdynamics DT 990 PRO - 250 Ohm

Speakers: Edifier Studio 6 Plus

Thanks in advance,

Luuk

Lol....

Right so I would switch to media monkey or Winamp.

The DAC is okay on the card, if you want more you'd need to buy a headphone amp, not DAC.

VLC, #RealAudiophilesDon'tEQ Technophiles do though, which is what most "audiophiles" are.

Yeah, you're probably true, the title should be Audiophile-grade Music player.

I would not call myself a pure audiophile since I do love to listen to music at it's purest form, but I also do like to turn up the bass when listening to dance music;)

Finally! an individual that doesn't become a rageaholic when some says EQ'ing is "bad".

The problem being that software eq doesn't add up to a hardware EQ.

My Creative has an EQ in the driver software.

I find that it detracts from the listening experience.

Foobar is way too much work. MusicBee all the way. It's fresh and technically advanced.

Good sound can be a lot of work but it's well worth it my man;)

Doing your job to earn 150 euro for a pair of headphones is probably more work than setting up Foobar and I did that too so yeah..

So I Installed Foobar since it was the most recommended player, the only thing I can say is wow, the sound is soo much better now!

I don't need a EQ anymore since a flat EQ on Foobar sounds amazing already! Thanks guys!

There is something that catched my eyes while looking around on the internet: the FIIO E07K Andes.

I am thinking about buying this because it says it is able to drive my 250 Ohm headphones easily

The situations I can use this in:

- As a DAC for my PC

- As a DAC for my laptop with the crappiest sound ever

- As a headphone Amp for my iPhone 4s

Do you guys think this is a good idea and will the sound coming out of this device be equal to or better than my Creative X-fi HD?

Also, does anyone have experience with this device?

Luuk

Foobar2000, check Tek Syndicate's video for more info.

I would suggest Foobar + Graphic Equalizer by xnor. Lightweight, chews through less than 20 MBs of RAM on average, highly customisable.

Foobar2000 any day. Exale in Linux until deadbeef is complete.

I'm happy with both VLC and winamp.

It's easier to create playlist using winamp, it's easier to use VLC's equalizer because winamp's suck its so hard to move them up and down in precision.

Still , i use winamp 99% for my music cuz i rarely use eq and vlc for all of my video files ;D cuz it basically play any video i throw at it.

I would recommend the Fiio E10, it's better overall, but it for dekstop/laptop usage only. I don't have any experience but I have heard many nice things about it on the forums and on Head-fi. However, you already have a soundcard sooooo, you may reconsider that. If spending money here and there is not a problem then go for it, totally. Those DT 990s will show their real character with a DAC.

Hope it helped!

I own one, and enjoy it thoroughly, I can easily say that it sound better then the X-Fi, since I use one as a dac for my amp. Only problem with it is that it adds a lot of bulk, not weight though, to my iPhone 3G.

I think that the E07k would work nicely for you though since you want to use it on so many different products.

Not really, I don't need the extra dac, since I don't use either of my two current dacs to their fullest, and I have a old stereo amp that I use for headphones that need lots of juice.

And I do need a soundcard since my motherboard doesn't have onboard.

Ah cool!

Even if your motherboard had onboard, would you use it...?
