so ive got myself a laptop, MSI ghost pro i7 6700HQ, 8GB RAM, gtx 970M 3GB, 1080p 60fps screen

Now going from my desktop, a GTX 980 ti and a 4K panel, i was surprised how well the laptop handled itself.

just finished a session on the division, about an hour. the GPU temps went as high at 73c, now the fps didn't really drop through the game so im assuming the gpu wasn't thermal throttling itself.

i know laptops get hotter then desktops but would it be safe to push it a little bit more via overclocking? whats the max safe temp? will it always throttle itself to protect the GPU even with overclocking?(i never change to temp settings to go higher)

ive never damaged anything before with overclocking but ive only ever overclocked desktop gear.

Thoguhts?

TIA

I would recommend staying away from overclocking laptops as they are running of batteries and have way less space inside for excess heat,.

this isn't always true, some laptops allow it, and if can find a 3rd party BIOS you probably can

It's not advisable though, the battery might not be able to handle the overclock and the heat will be an issue

well alot of the time i will be on AC, when on battery i wont load up the OC, obviously if i OC and the temps where too high id take the OC off

If you load up the battery too high you will ruin the laptop. If you overclock your CPU and or GPU, you will hit thermal limits swiftly. The overclock you can push without it thermal throttling won't even be worth the time.
