Hey, I am in the process of planning by first pc build.  I have been doing extensive research during my free time and have a hit "the wall" at this point.  I was wondering what you guys thought of my build list, as I have much to learn.  Thanks!

You don't need a cooler. 6500 has a stock cooler but it will be fine if you have one for quiteness

Z170 motherboard is a waste. 6500 with a h110 or b110 mobo would be better. Z are for overclocking since you don't have an oc-able (with K)

120GB might be small for SSD

Rest is fine

So basically:

  • cooler is optional, if you really need to cut down cost, start here.
  • the motherboard is quite overkill, but if you like the feature set, go for it. You could try to find a way cheaper board from the h110 or b150 chipset that fits your needs. this would fit quite well too for example (https://pcpartpicker.com/product/kjZ2FT/msi-motherboard-h170meco), downside is, it is only mATX so it will not fill all the space. But if your hunting for that black and white scheme, your selected board is a good option for the price.
  • Also consider a higher capacity ssd, at least 250GB, as you pay way too much per GB on the 120 GB drives
