Hey guys,

I have 4 3 pin fans in my pc, and they are all plugged into 4 pin connectors on my MOBO. Since they have no PWM, they are running full speed, and are very loud. I was thinking if i switched out my motherboard for  the Asrock extreme3 r2.0, which has 3 pin fan connectors.  I think that three pin fans in three pin connectors whould allow me to control the fans via bios.

Its either this or I buy a fan controller.

If I get any responses ( i doubt it ), please correct me since im a PC noob ( Ive only built one)

Thanks

-E

welcome to the Linus Tech Tips forums!

what motherboard are you using to control the fans with?

as per the manual: http://asrock.pc.cdn.bitgravity.com/Manual/970 Extreme3 R2.0.pdf

you'll control the fan through the HHEM screen:

Personally, I would buy a fan controller (NZXT, Phanteks).

Their cheap and the NZXT one has great software for windows.

And the phanteks one is controlled by one single 4 pin with Pwm.

Which mobo you have now? You can control 3pin fans, even when they are connected to PWM supported connectors if your mobo supports DC controlling. Its quite a big jump to change mobo just because you have issues with fan headers.

Hub you linked works also, it will use CPU fan header as controlling unit.
