Posted October 18, 2016 I'm currently finalizing parts for my first ground-up build, and I was initially going to get an ADATA 512GB M.2 boot/main drive, and a Samsung 500GB SSD for regular storage. Right now (on sale) it would be slightly cheaper to just get a 1TB Crucial M.2 SSD, so would it be crazy to just use that as the sole drive? Are there reliability issues with M.2s at that size or from that maker? (My laptop RAM is Crucial, and it's been fine.) Any other reasons not to do this? Posted October 18, 2016 I don't think it'd be crazy. Probably less of a hassle organizing your files too. I have a blog! And a list of guides I've posted

Upon re-checking, I've got all kinds of mis-remembered info up there. Here are the cards (the 512 was SanDisc, not ADATA): SanDisk X400 512GB M.2 2280 SATA 3 Solid State Drive (SSD) m.ncix.com/products/sku/125368 CRUCIAL® MX300 1TB M.2 Type 2280SS Solid State Drive (SSD) m.ncix.com/products/sku/135002
 With twice the damage when failing But yes, it's 1tb of sata ssd storage either way, and 512 sounds too much for a system drive, so it seems like safety would require backing up more than the 2.5 drive anyway. If you can find info on effective speeds and they are not very different, I'd say go for the cheapest option, you can always replicate the layout through partitions if needed. Posted October 19, 2016 Author Thanks for the heads-up on those; I hadn't realized they were merely standard SSDs in a smaller form factor. Cheers
