System has been working fine for the past month and a half after build, had it unplugged from the mains for a few days and psu completely switched off, and now it won't boot?

as in nothing happens when I press the power button on the case or the start button on the mobo :/

anyone got any ideas?

im on a hero viii board, i7-6700k

Have you checked to see if everything is plugged in and all switches turned on (yes some people don't actually check before they ask)

Unfortunately I have haha

althkugh I have just noticed that my gpu lights aren't on, can't remember if they turn on when just connected to the psu or if the system has to be on though?? It's a gtx 1080 superclocked

funnily enough the exact same thing is happening to me as well, with a similar setup to yours... :/ for me when I press the power button a red LED turns on the motherboard, which apparently means that it doesn't get power; i think it's going to be a psu issue

It better not be, I just had the bugger replaced!!

Are you on the right voltage setting for your psu? Some people switch it to (for example) 230v when they are supposed to be on 110v. This (I think anyways) can fry your psu, and maybe even your system.

Same plug as always bud, lights on the mobo are flashing away just as they should but nothing happens when I push the start button

You didn't mention the lights in your original post. So if the lights on the mobo light up then the PS is "working" at least somewhat.

I'd try disconnecting everything except one stick of ram and use the onboard video if you have some.

Sometimes it's quicker and easier to start from the bottom and work your way up to bigger problems.

Personally I'd test the power supply by disconnecting it from the mobo and jumping the green wire on the 24pin to one of the black wires. If it doesn't turn on, some power supplies also need a bit of a load so I'd put a power resistor between one of the red wires and black wires. (All red wires coming from the PS are 5V, all yellow are 12V and all black are ground.) Alternatively you could keep a HDD hooked up.. but I've never tried that. I'll have to try it when I get home.

If the PS still doesn't turn on, then it's bad. (Basically watch the fan to see if it turns on or not.) Or measure the voltage with a DMM, but most people don't have that.

My evga power supply came with a "jumper" cable. It basically is a 24 pin female connector with the green wire jumped to one of the black wires. Very useful for testing power supplies.

EDIT: Don't leave the power supply on for long in this state, especially if you had to use a power resistor. That resistor will likely get (very) hot, so you don't want it to catch fire.

i've taken out all of the ram apart from 1 stick, havent taken out all the hdd's so i'll do that now

don't have any of the equipment you have mentioned to test the psu however my dad probably does so i may have to try that tomorrow

just tried plugging it in to a different plug socket and no change

would it make a difference if i disconnected any of the headers for the case??

That's ok haha, in other news.. just pushed the little red button next to the start and reset switch and the system powered on with nothing plugged in

had to turn it off as the cpu pump wouldn't be running but hopefully this may have fixed it

no idea what that button is though??
