Replacing vocal cords

Strives are being made but it's not yet possible:

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/voice-transplants-one-step-closer-after-scientists-grow-human-vocal-chords-a6739516.html

Damage can be repaired and people can learn to use the ugly sounding but functional fry if needed be but damage is often permanent i.e. James LaBrie from Dream Theater used to have a far higher and stronger registry but damaged his vocal cords due to violently vomiting from a stomach flu. He managed to continue his career with just several different vocal techniques and such and recovered but also time went by many of his "useful" years.

This is also another truth about singers: Most of them damage their cords eventually by working too much, having sub-optimal technique (or styles that only minimize but don't avoid damage) and degradation also comes naturally with age.
