KEF LS50 - Thoughts?

My current desk speakers are Klipsch RB-51 Reference II and they tend to be pretty bright when I turn up the volume. They can become quite fatiguing at sort of high volume after 3 to 5 songs. I'm itching to upgrade them. I listen to a lot of music at my desk with some minimal amount of gaming. I'm looking for nice, passive bookshelves that aren't too bright.

I've been considering the KEF LS50. It has way too many good reviews online which makes me a little suspicious, but also a little interested.

Do you have any experience with the LS50? Is there something else you recommend near the same price point ($1,200 to $1,500) for a pair of bookshelves? I have an amp with gobs of power so sensitivity is not something I am concerned with at all.

I've read many great reviews of them from trusted people, they seem like to go too for the price.

I'd get them.

You are as bad as me except I tend to want to build my own cabinets. I love making things. Most people don't want to spend that kind of money for sound. I've spent 10,000 on audio equipment before. By that I mean 4 speakers. i cant remember the brand. Some hand made craziness I found in Fla. in liek 1997 and they didn't even come with cabinets. Witch was fine with me. I spent 3,000 more on wood. I never did get a proper amp for them. I ended up blowing them in the back of my truck on a 4000watt car amp. O 2 10'' and 2 5 and somethings. I was on to many drugs back then. Ahh to be 18 again....

I buy a lot used. I have a lot invested in my theater, but that's more than four speakers haha that's the room where speaker size doesn't matter too much.

Just make a budget and save up each month... that's what I do.

Yes they have an attractive and distinct look. I made someone an offer after reading more and more reviews. Hopefully they accept, and hopefully they aren't useless paperweights.

If you find them useless, send them to me, I'll find a use.

I would be able to pay a fair amount, but it would be way too expensive to get them over to me and not sure how certain people are going to react if I get more sound equipment.  xD

I am also sure that you are going to like them.

I hear you. I've been buying way too much secondhand equipment recently. It's so easy.

This is a bummer. The guy I was trying to purchase these speakers from decided to go on vacation for the weekend. I hate to lose these speakers (not many for sale around me), but this guy doesn't seem very serious about making a sale.

just keep in touch with the seller, so you are the first person he or she thinks of, when he/she comes back and maybe a bit more interested in selling.

Yes. When I was still living in Washington, there was an audio shop near me that was a KEF dealer. The LS50s are a fantastic pair of speakers!!! If I had the money/didn't live in a dorm, I would buy them in a heartbeat. They are well worth even their full asking price.

I also got to listen to the Blade 2's once, playing some vinyl off a $30,000 hand made turn table. The whole system was worth roughly $100k. It was quite the experience.

Hey! New SIgnature!

I'm supposedly a person on the Internet, but you'll never know if I'm human or not ;)
