Yes, and they usually use pretty decent paste.  Not the best, but far from the worst.  The quality difference isn't going to change his temps that much.

You're probably right, but still. It's easy and quick. Paste application could have gotten screwed up. Maybe he lifted and it pulled a bit off in one spot, etc.

Just been messing around with my 6700k the last week or so and just wanted to share the results see what other people have.

 4.3Ghz on 1.2V Temps after about 8 hours gaming @1080p 60Fps and streaming @1080p 60fps 63C , Idle around 23C and Ambient 14C

4.635Ghz on 1.335V Temps again after 8 Hours gaming @1080p 60Fps and streaming @1080 60Fps 81C , Idle 28C and Ambient 14C.

Any comments would be great

From everything I've read about the 6700k and 6600k, that's a pretty bad overclock and it's VERY hot. I was able to get 4.8 GHz on my 6600k no sweat with temps still down in the 50s-60s.

Why "overclock" to 4.3 GHz? The CPU turbos up to 4.2 so you're not really doing anything significant.

Linus did a video on overclocking these chips, he also had a stable 4.8 GHz overclock.

Also, Tcase for the 6700K is 64C. That's generally the "maximum" temp your CPU should ever see....

Your cooling must be terrible.

No offense, but I'd turn down the overclock to get those temps under control.

Turbo only effects SINGLE CORE performance.

I have 240 AIO Deepcool on it and 3 intake fans and 1 140mm exhaust. Plus my 1080 is a Sea Hawk edition and that is water cooled. So there is no heat as such coming from that.

It still seems very hot, especially for a watercooled setup.

I'd suspect bad thermal paste. I'd also not run my CPU 15 °C hotter than Tcase if you want any sort of longevity out of it.

With 14c ambients, I'd have to say that your temps are a bit on the high side.  At a 20c ambient, that current 81c while gaming becomes a 87c.

For that voltage, it just seems a bit warm.

I see. Guess I really only payed attention to the 6600K overclocks. Still seems like a low overclock for how hot it is no?

yes indeed, voltage is not that important. surely it can be optimized. Also changing thermal paste may be a smart move

For clarification, what do you mean by that?

voltage is the main responsible for high CPU temperatures. current 1.335V is not that high, I've seen on overclocker.net channel people with same temps @1.45v ....

also if OP wants to overclock at these frequencies and just didn't win silicon lottery, he can delid his CPU (warning, warranty void, risk to damage the CPU definietly, but 20-25°C to win)

I could actually return if needed which isn't a problem as the store I go to I have a good relationship with so I can basically turn round and say they have given me a potatoe and they would swap it for me

if there isn't a problem i'm afraid they won't. But before knowing if you have a potato please follow the overclocking guide I posted here.

AFTER having done it if you have a potato you can sell it back "because you changed your mind" and buy another to win the lottery

Agreed.  I thought you were saying something else.

With that said, given his low voltage, his temps are on the high side.  Right now his PC is being operated in a room at 14c.  If his room goes to 20c + he will be knocking on or over 90c.

Also, this is only a gaming load.  Should he place any AVX or other heavy load on the CPU, he's guaranteed to be 90c + and potentially bouncing off of TjMax when operating in a 20c + ambient.

Your voltage is good.  What is your cooling solution?

probably, first step is changing thermal paste anyway.

OP, what is your OC profile ? I assume you overclocked BLK ?

yea 103 on the Blk and 45 on ratios and 2400  MHz on the ram. I can pop out and get some more paste if needed.

Like @belfouf mentioned.  Check your thermal paste application.  You're temps are a bit high given your configuration and room temps.  Also, run something like OCCT to get a true sense of load temps.  Gaming load is just too inconsistent and often a low measurement.
