I want to upgrade my PC to use it for gaming. Currently i have:

CPU: i3-3240

GPU: R7 240
Motherboard: Gigabyte H61M S2PV
8GB DDR3 RAM

500W Power Supply

I use 1 monitor with 1920 1080 resolution

I have all the peripherals i need

Ask if i forgot something

right now i have a budget of about 300 euros but i will get a lot more in about 6-7 months
So i need to know first should i wait for a bigger budget or not and how to get the most out of the 300e that i have.

I would get a better gpu and a better PSu if needed. Like go for an r9 series gpu.

i like trains 🙂

To be safe, I would do that, for saving the rest of the money to get an i5 third gen instead of an i3

So the rx 480. How does it compare with the r9 290. From what i've seen online it actually seems to be a bit better which doesn't make sense to me since its smaller, cheaper and requires less W

Newer cards are typically much more power efficient.  The R9 290 is 3 years old, while the 480 only came out a few months ago.  While newer doesn't always mean better, I think the 480 is still the best option performance wise (but not by much). Unless you can get a 290 for dirt cheap on the used market.

As long as you're not running a 500w fire hazard I'd say upgrade to a Rx 480 right now, then pick a 3770, non k or k since its the used market so you use what you can get, when you have the money. (I'd guess a 3770 would be about 200-250)

CPU: I5 4590 Motherboard: ASROCK H97 Pro4 Ram: XPG 16gb v2.0 4x4 kit  GPU: Gigabyte GTX 970 PSU: EVGA 550w Supernova G2 Storage: 128 gb Sandisk SSD + 525gb Mx300 SSD Cooling: Be Quiet! Shadow Rock LP Case: Zalman T2 Sound: Logitech Z506 5.1 Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma Keyboard: DBPower LED

If you wanted to stick with that generation of processors (Ivy Bridge), an i5 3570 or i7 3770 (non k because of your motherboard) would be a nice upgrade for now along with a graphics card, and then later on upgrading to something newer.  Just be cautious when buying used parts.
