Upgrade Needed For Old Prebuilt

Sreno1

I am looking to upgrade a prebuilt I have lying around and sell it for a profit as I got the case, mobo, ram, and CPU for free. Here is the product page for it http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01982717

I want this machine to run CS:GO and other eSports titles at 60 FPS.

My budget is ~$200 for the upgrade.

Note: I do not have a hard drive/OS and plan on buying a small HD + OS from Kinguin. (Price included in the $200 budget)

I do have the PSU but it is a 230W and any graphics card will take me above that threshold.

If an upgrade at a reasonable price isn't possible, how much would these components sell for?

Terribly out of date at this point.  Save your money up and start a'fresh.

You'd be lucky to get $100 for the whole machine.

Windows 7 came with that computer, no need to buy a pirated copy of windows from a dodgy website.

Upgrade the CPU to an Athlon II X4 or Phenom II X4 for $40, buy a good used PSU like a Corsair CX for $20 and slap in a HD 7970 for $100

no need for something even that expensive. get like a 660 or AMD equivalent (im not good with older AMD hardware sorry) for like $50. More than enough for CSGO/League/Dota/etc

For upgrading you would need to get a new psu (250w is to small for modern hardware) , a new motherboard for am3 (not sure how they got a sepron working as the motherboard is am2) just to put in a better cpu. Too get a new gpu you would need to replace the power supply as well, but it would be easier that the cpu. Its the better option if the two, but not good.

Just save some money sell this and do a new budget pc.

Will that board even take a 140W Phenom II Athlon X4?

So many minefields...  If you have a parts junk bin, sure...  But I don't know if I'd feel comfortable ordering new parts for it.

It says 95w max on the manufacturer's page.

There are under 95w Phenom II x4s.

The 925, and the "e" one would be under 95w.

To get it to run csgo just add a gpu and new psu, really almost any decent gpu in the past few years can run csgp.

It's not even worth it to upgrade the whole system till this point. The money would be more well spent in a new system

the website has a section for CPU upgrades. It takes a phenom ii x4 9xx

but yeah no point really. sell it for $30 if you REALLY need $30

CSGO at 60fps is not hard to do, all the system needs is a gpu to be able to run it, you don't need a 6950x to run an esport game even older lga 775/am2 cpus can still run esports just fine.

I already have a computer, this computer is purely for resell value as a "1080p 60 FPS CS:GO Potato". I might lend it to a friend if I want to play with them or something.

Which GPU, new or used will get me the best value @ 60 fps?

Do I need a new CPU or will this one handle itself?

I would say try it with the cpu it has now if you decide it needs more power then get a new one.

As for the gpu, new a rx 460 would be good.

Used there are a lot of option such as the amd 69xx series, 77xx, 78xx, 79xx series, or the nvidia gtx 650 or higher, 750 or higher, or 950, anything older really isn't worth it unless it is high end like the gtx 580, and is really cheap.

Usually amd cards are slightly cheaper used, but may have a slightly higher chance of failure.
