Long story short: I'm installing s new CPU cooler and need to remove the thermal paste, but our local pharmacy doesn't have any isopropyl rubbing alcohol, ar any alcohol-based products and all.

That leaves me with two options: Go to the nearest city to get some (cumbersome and a waste of time) or use something we already have at home.

I have found two things that might work instead of alcohol; a bottle of nail varnish remover and a Swedish tick-bite thing called salubrin, which I think is alcohol-based. The stated ingredients are Acetic Acid, Ethyl Acetate and Acohol denat.

Will any of these work for remocing thermal paste? Is there anything else which works better?

EDIT: Found a bottle of pure acetone in the garage, is that better?

Nail remover is actually acetone, and it can melt plastic so I'd be really careful about that.

Not sure if acetone is such a great idea as it is a paint stripper if i'm not mistaken, you should ask your pharamacy if they have any hand cleaning spirits like anti-bac (just one I know of in Norway), it should work just as good as long as it's not a foam or gel.
