Custom GPU Loop in a Corsair 450D

Hey LTT,

 

I'm looking to do a custom loop from EKWB for my GTX 1080 founders edition. I'm thinking of a very small pump/res combo and a 140mm rad.

 

P.S. I put this in Planning cause it's planning.... right?

 

Here's what i've thought of so far:

That black "box" at the bottom right of the case is about the size of a 140MM rad (extend it sideways to the screw holes) plus maybe another 10mm for a fan. I can put the rad there and get a mini pump/res combo and put it between the rad and the PSU so it would all be very compact (albeit probably a mess of tubes also)

 

or

 

use 90 degree fittings on the radiator pointing towards the PSU, and weld/duct tape/hot glue a small flat piece of metal an inch or two above the rad to place the pump on (and if i need more space i can cut the bottom out of the HDD bay and the bottom slot or two if need be) and have a slightly more spread out mess of cables if that makes sense.

 

 

OR

 

I could mount the radiator to the bottom of the front two fan positions with the inlet/outlet at the top and put the pump/res combo between that and the PSU.

 

If the third, part of me wants to get a reservoir that would fit in the empty two 3.5" bays, like a short wide cylinder.

If your only going for a gpu only loop why not use the Corsair Adapter/NZXT Bracket

Seems to be a much cheaper option.

I'm well aware of that. People don't make custom loops because they're cheap

True, personally Id prefer to use Custom loop for everything, I'm assuming you want to avoid putting the rad on the rear 140mm mount?

I can't actually, my AIO has to have the tubes coming out the rad on the rear because other wise it would interfere with my 5.25" bays, the lower of which is occupied. Otherwise that would work well. (I also want an Air 740 case but those are too expensive right now lol)

Gotcha, for the extra money you should just add the cpu into the loop, then you can run a triple rad up top.

Tempting, but I don't have THAT much money. I really don't have much of a size comparison to see how much a pump/res would look in the case either (never done a custom loop before)

Fair enough, the bay style pump/res combo looks terrible. IMO
What kills me is the price of the EK/other stuff, Its hard to swallow 200CAN+ for a D5 pump res combo.

Tell me about it. Makes me sad. Maybe I'll just have to wait for more money to come my way. Wouldn't hurt anyways. Thanks for the info tho

Might be worth it, it will help make your build look cleaner.

Yeah I'm sure it would. If I can fit a 360 up top (might have to take out the back fan but it stays off 90% of the time anyways) then I would imagine I'd have plenty of room on the floor of the case for a pump and separate res, unless i wanted to do a combo. Would for sure look clean.
