Hey guys, getting into the whole PC building community (have owned many laptops in my past). I've done plenty research and have come to what I think will work for my needs (with future upgrades). I'd love to get part recommendations and help with my current build. I will be using  this PC for schoolwork, CAD, some computer programming, and games such as: cs go, world of warships, overwatch, battlefield, and a few others. Thanks for the help, and suggestions are always wanted.

I'd get an i3 6100 personally due to it being a newer platform and being able to upgrade to something like an i5 in a year. The rest of the build seems fine but i don't live in Canada so I'm not sure how good that 950's price is. I'd look at the rx 470 and see how that card's price compares to it. the 470 should be a lot more powerful

I put you on the path to future upgrades.

Possible future upgrades:

  • CPU: i5-6600k or i7-6700k
  • GPU: 1070 or 1080 or 470 or 480 (all four are better than a 960/950)
  • RAM: Another stick to equal 16 GBs
  • CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 or Dark Rock Pro 3 (both would be amazing for overclocking)
  • SSD: Samsung 850 EVO or Crucial MX300 (Both are great SSDs)

Budget? i3 6100 is faster and much easier to upgrade as AM3+ is basically dead (As is all of AMDs sockets). 950 is bad value, buy a 460 instead. 950 only needs 380W (As does 460), but if you want to stick with 500W for upgradeability, buy a better one, B2 perhaps.

Thanks a bunch guys, I was looking at amd, as they seem to be better for the dollar, but I'll definitely check out that i3. I figured I would use the 120gb SSD for boots and some of my favourite games. The case was kinda a must though :P. And I will do a bit more work on the video card. Do you think the fx-8350 would be more suitable? (I only ask this because it'll be dropping in price soon) or should I just pick up that i3?

get an i5 6500, your budget can handle it. just swap the source 210 for the spec-alpha if you want it so much(just use the money on better cpu/gpu, get the case next time).

I'm not sure where you're getting your numbers from, but the i5 6500 costs about $110 more where I'm looking, I feel it's unecassary for now. I would probably look to it in the future for a CPU upgrade. Thanks for the opinion.
