Can I upgrade smoothly?

Go to solution Solved by CommanderAlex,

You should be fine with the 4790k paired with a GTX 1080. My 4790k is paired with a GTX 1070 is performance is great. If you go higher than 60 fps,as always, CPU utilization goes up to be able to supply more for the GPU perfectly, no issues what so ever so a GTX 1080 would be fine.

I have a gaming rig with an i7 4790k, 16gb ram, 750W PSU, MSI Z97 MOBO and a GTX 970. I've wanted to upgrade to a better gpu mainly for future proofing purposes. With my current specs could I smoothly upgrade to a GTX 1080 with out issue or bottleneck?

(I know this is probably a simple question but I get paranoid and like to cover all my bases before doing something)
