i want 2 use my old monitor as a 2nd monitor for multitasking so i bought a vga female to dvi so i can use it but i does not work i went in control panel and it does not come up in devices and in screen resolution it does not come up but if i hit the detect button another monitor pops up saying another display not detected, and i get the same in the nvidia control panel. 

please help

What adapter are you using specifically?

well fuck. do you know any other way i can use this monitor it's vga only and the mobo vga does not detect it either

Depending on how you have it set up(for example if your current monitor is connected to the DVI-I connector), you can move your primary display to the DVi-D connector, purchase a DVI-I to VGA adapter(which won't be active because DVI-I also outputs an analog signal through the four additional pins in the square formation), or if you're using the mini HDMI connection, you can just get the adapter I mentioned above and connect the display.

i use the mini hdmi so i have 2 buy a DVI-I to VGA

In order to boot into Safe Mode, click on restart in the Start Menu while holding Shift. You should get additional options. There should be one about changing the behavior of the boot operation. This will give you the option of going into Safe Mode.
