Im wondering if a ipad/laptop like device can be connected to my pc via hdmi or something to act as additional screens, and by simply moving something from my main screen to that one i can remove the laptop thing and have whatever i moved there still work?
i dont know if a nas can work wirelessly but i imagine that would have to be used in that case. unless the laptop has a hdd that will atleast temporary save what is moved to it when its removed or something?

so lets say you are working in photoshop or a drawing program and need to go show someone or you simply just want to sit down in a different chair while doing it on a touch screen - you would need it to keep working and save itself to the device etc.

no i dont think that would work long term. what if i need to leave the house and take it with me - no internet and id want it saving on the device probably

So you basically want to be able to move a window from a laptop to a tablet, and then take the tablet somewhere and work offline?

I don't think that's possible. that tech is years away at the very least, and would probably require a complete shift to cloud computing (although that wouldn't work offline) or a complete re-write of all operating systems. to do this, all files that the program you are transferring needs would be transferred wirelessly to the smaller tablet, so the program could work locally. this couldn't work today, because many programs rely on operating system APIs, have program files spread out all over the place, rely on registry things, and the wireless tech isn't fast enough to seamlessly move files. it would take a few minutes of connecting at least.

the best I can recommend is installing all your programs on something like a USB stick, so you can just keep the USB stick on you at all times and then plug it in to whatever you need.

awwwwwhh such a shame D:

the files wouldnt neccesary have to move wirelessly though. since the tablet would be connected to the computer there is a wire i guess. but still if everythings spread all over the place that wouldnt help much i guesss D:

You could just remote desktop in from a device, probably the only real solution, outside of just getting a portable desktop

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Well get to hitting the lottery and learn some crazy software engineering to do it. All you maybe really need is an X86 UMPC type device/laptop you can hook up to a desktop through USB type C or something faster, so that it can can clone the desktop PC's RAM/OS state when you want to go mobile

Duet Display allows you to use an iPad as monitor. Works with windows or Mac and uses the USB lightening cable so you get 60fps/full resolution.

However I don't know if anything that can temporarily store a windows session on a tablet.

id say a Windows 10 based tablet "should" be able to do most of what you want, if not yet id say soon, that is kinda what theyre trying to do with PC/WP/XBO/tab, a windows phone with continuum may also handle the task, im a WP user but dont have a Continuum yet so not totally fir sure

I understand what you're talking about but there isn't something like that yet. A solution is to work on a project for example a video project or photoshop or document. Save it onto your nas. Then just download / open the file on your laptop and continue working from where you left off.

I wish there were an easier way to transfer web pages than saving the links. I'm sure there is but none as simple as saving another document as far as i know.

Yes and no, the closest product to this right now is Synergy. However, it only supports mouse and clipboard sharing.

There's another product like this that supports Android but I forgot what it's called.

It's completely blown out of proportion. Also if you're the least bit worried about data gathering then you should go live in a cave a 1000Km from the nearest establishment simply because every device and every entity gathers information these days. In the current era privacy is just fallacy and nothing more.
