Hi all. Just acquired an FX 8350/ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 and decided to see how far I could get it with my Kraken X61. Never even played with an FX chip before so this was all new and fun for me. Got everything installed, turn on Aida64 stress test, and to my surprise, max core temp was 45c. So LONG story short after a couple hours I've got it stable at 5Ghz. Validation: http://valid.x86.fr/j3r761

So is this 8350 a lottery winning chip, or can every FX lowkey do 5Ghz and nobody has said anything until now. Thoughts/input/questions ask away. I'm just proud of myself here and essentially wanted to show off a bit.

----EDIT---- It was pointed out I worded something poorly. The load temps were 45c at STOCK, so I knew I had room to overclock/overvolt it just from that. My max temp at 5Ghz does not exceed 57c

CPU: INTEL Core i7 4790k @ 4.7Ghz - Cooling: NZXT Kraken X61 - Mobo: Gigabyte Z97X SLI - RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ares 2400mhz - GPU: AMD Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury 4G - Case: Phanteks P350X - PSU: EVGA 750GQ - Storage: WD Black 1TB - Fans: 2x Noctua NF-P14s (Push) / 2x Corsair AF140 (Pull) / 3x Corsair AF120 (Exhaust) - Keyboard: Corsair K70 Cherry MX Red - Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma

Bit of an AMD fan I suppose. I don't bias my replies to anything however, I just prefer AMD and their products. Buy whatever the H*CK you want.

Nononono. Poorly worded. At STOCK the 8350 only gets to 45C. @ 5Ghz under load it's 57c max.

That still sounds wrong. What are you using to monitor temps, and are you checking core temps or socket temps?

Aida64 AND Open Hardware Monitor. And that's core temp. Socket temp caps out at 65c.

Ok good, that's fine then.

I'm just curious is this average for FX chips? My intel overclocking experience has been poor so far. My q6600 would do 3ghz, not a single MHZ more. My 4790k only did 4.5ghz stable enough to run 3dmark, didn't go 5 seconds into Aida64 stress test. This thing is just a monster for overclocking in comparison. Although not as fast in any way to my 4790k, this is still plenty for my needs.

Damn dude. Highest I could go was 4.2 =(.

On a 8350 or 8320. I would have to start seeing a counselor if an 8350 exists that can only do 4.2

Average is 4.7GHz, but on average most people use less powerful coolers than the X61.

My 8320 went to 4.3, but I overclocked someone else's 8350, poor soul lost the lottery couldn't go too much past turbo despite how much voltage we crammed in there.

Average I think is around 4.5 at 1.4v. Cooling adds many more variables to attempt a target avg temp though

Wow I feel blessed. I actually got this (and the board) from a friend who owned it for like 3 years. Ran it on a h100i and left it at stock the entire time. I was always curious how far this thing could go...

Dude that blows. My 4790k hit a voltage wall trying to get 4.6ghz stable. 4.5ghz was stable-ish and could play any game or render any video no problem, but wouldn't last a minute in Aida64. I could barely get 4.6ghz to the desktop before it bluescreened. 1.275v to keep 4.5ghz happy, but even 1.35v couldn't satisfy 4.6ghz.

i have a fx 8350 but i have a motherboard with a crappy power phase so i cant get it to overclock at all.
