Has nothing to do with it being removable media or not, just how the OS was installed.

 

If you loaded the OS using legacy, and switch it to uefi it will not be able to boot off of the drive, and vice versa.

UEFI is required for lots of fast boot and secure this and that stuff. If you change that setting you won't be able to boot into the OS since it was installed in legacy mode and doesn't support UEFI mode. But then when you switch it back, it boots just fine. If you want to fully utilize UEFI for say fast boot, you have to reinstall the OS in UEFI mode. Unless the off chance that the OS was actually installed in UEFI mode and then the settings was changed to Legacy.
