mobo manufacturers released BIOS updates for their LGA1151 boards for upcoming Intel's Kaby Lake CPUs

yes, you install it after Windows is up and running

latest one, for Intel, is available here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/20775/Intel-Chipset-Device-Software-INF-Update-Utility-?product=1145

Does a computer need the chipset driver to work properly?

Or can it work without it?

I ask because last spring when I'd added the SSDs to my main desktop (the build in my profile) I don't remember if I'd installed any chipset driver...  ?

well, Windows has it's own drivers provided either by MS or Intel

I install them because their whole purpose is to make the chipset work efficiently

Maybe I should dig up the driver discs that came with my motherboard and install the chipset drivers?  ?

mobo manufacturers don't make the chipset drivers, Intel and AMD do

I didn't say they made them.  Just that my motherboard came with a disc with various drivers including chipset drivers.

Like the disc in this picture.  This disc came with the motherboard for the Usagi build that I recently did for my friend.  See on the left side of it where it says "chipsets"?    That's what I was talking about when I said my motherboard (and the board for Usagi) included chipset drivers.

But it I didn't install them.  So I'm worried that might be a problem.
