Looking for volume control.

Ok what I want is effectively an amp that acts as a passthrough for my headphones and my sound card. In other words it can't be USB or HDMI or anything like that. I need audio to audio. My headphones are Sennheiser 558's (which I got this morning) and an ASUS Xonar D1. I heard that it isn't beneficial to control audio through software so I am basically looking to control my audio sound volume with hardware not software. It would also be nice to change volume without alt-tabbing out of games to do so.

If you want analog control, you're gonna be spending a fair bit of money. If you're fine with digital hardware buttons, just get a FiiO E3, E5, or E6.
