mITX motherboard

Hi, I'm looking for a mITX motherboard with a 1151 socket, m.2, and wifi. Not sure if I want a z170 chipset since the cpu cooler won't be suitable for overclocking (have a 6700K in my current build). Price on the MB isn't really an issue.

 

Would also like suggestions on a gtx 1070/1080 with a good blower cooler.

If you want a 6700k you need a Z170 to overclock.

thinking of using fractal design node 202, and i don't think there is place for a cpu cooler suited for overclocking.

 

ofc i could buy a z170 mb in case i buy a larger case later

Can I see the rest of your build? I can put a good list together with the 202. If you are getting a 6700k and aren't overclocking... it's a slight waste of money.

already have the 6700k, working on the build atm.

its called something like a gigabyte phoenix or something like that, it has m.2 lga 1151 and wifi. it is not a z170 chipset though, if thats an issue. another option is a gigabyte g1 gaming. i dont know if it has m.2, but it has wifi, z170, and 6 sata 6gp/s if you need that.

SFF cases with non-blowers just get heated up even more by the GPU's heat, hence a rear-blower to reduce overall temps.

I mean, it depends. The Asus one has USB 3.1 T-A and C, which has 2 times the speed of USB 3.0. Second, the Asus one has U.2 and M.2 to satisfy your PCI-E storage needs. Third, the Asus one has better MOSFETs on a dedicated board, so that's also a plus.

 

I would go for the Asus Impact as (in my opinion) it's built better than MSI and has better overclocking abilities.

I just wanted to share my experience with the Asus z170i pro gaming. Basically this board offers everything I could want. Even m.2 which I am planning on populating this winter.

The only thing it doesn't have is USB 3.1 10gbit/s or USB C. I don't miss it and since I change hardware every year or two I really couldn't care less. 

Sounds great imho,.... The integrated sounds I mean;-)

 

Other than that I really like that it has decent heat sinks and doesn't stick out in height too much and thus keeping compatibility high. 

Also fan control is not too bad. I used to have the glorious p8z77i (first off its kind back then) and it had only two pwm headers with no DC support. Now I have three with DC support. 

 

I am not trying to convince you, just hope this gives an impression and helps decide if the Asus impact is really worth it for what you do. And of it is? By all means buy it.

I would cange the i7-6700k into a i5-6600k as there is no need for it unless you are doing heavy video editing. Use the money saved from the CPU to get a better Asmobo like the Asus Impact.

 

Also, I would change the PSU to a EVGA P2 650W. They are both Tier 1 PSUs, but for 10 dollars less you could get a better platinum rated PSU.

 

Last, I would change the case to a MITX case with a window. Just my personal preference though.
