Worth it?

I'm thinking of building a budget pc for some light gaming along with possibly some very light editing and rendering. For the CPU i was thinking something along the lines of the i5 3570k, which i was going to overclock. How much of an upgrade would it be compared to the i3 3120m in my laptop?

Why go with an older i5?

Older = slightly cheaper

 

By budget is hard to explain, its changing all the time.

I would say 450-550 is my budget, and i already have the case. (Corsair r100)

I'm aware that at that budget used parts are probably my best bet for some of it, so i'm completely willing to buy used.

Used 100% is determined by your area and what is available there, so I cannot help you pick parts. 

 

But, I can say that an i5 is definetly the right direction.

Franklin County, Maine USA. 

We dont really have any decent tech shops around here, but of course i could run into the city (Augusta, Auburn, Portland) if i had to

To lower the price you could get an RX 460 instead.

I'm thinking something more like this. Assuming i can catch things around black Friday and cyber Monday i can shave a little of the price.

 

 I was going to go with the i5 6500 and use the stock cooler but just  decided to go with the i5 6600k, because it should last me longer and all id have to juts upgrade the gpu, if i wanted, down the road till the cpu starts getting on the old side. I also decided against 16GB of ram because of the price and the fact i can always upgrade later on.

Whatever floats ur boat lol I don't like buying used electronics especially GPUs and ESPECIALLY from ebay

Thats why i put "Or something". Not sure what im going to do about that but i guess the 1050 and 1050 ti are yet to be released, right?

 

EDIT: Took a look at the expected specs of the 1050, probably not getting that...

yeah but they may not have one as the 1060 3GB is actually more of a 1050 than it is a 1060
