MSI RX 480x Power saving Issue

Hey,

 

2 months ago I had bought a MSI RX 480 gaming X Graphics card, I only have a big problem with it, which is that it downclocks all the time, and I just want to run it at full speed at all times.

When I use third party tools like MSI afterburner or change the Wattman settings myself, the card can kind of run at full speed, but I still have a usage issue of the graphics card.

 

Weirdly enough sometimes it suddenly runs at full speed and runs at full usage without any third party software installed, then my computer runs perfectly smooth without input lag, but when I reboot the system everything is fluctuating again. 

 

So i was thinking that it might be cause of ULPS or Powerplay, so I was wondering if someone here might know a change to some file in AMD's text file settings, to disable powerplay, or if someone might know a registry fix, to disable those features, so my card can run at full speed again, as third party apps like MSI afterburner don't work. I think that's also because I have to use compatibility mode for the RX 480, which I'm also not sure of. Anyhow, when I use MSI afterburner it automatically turns of Compatibility mode. But that might be because Afterburner asks more power, and that compatibility mode is only a power fix.

 

Also Afterburner might not completely remove the power saving features, I really hope someone here would know a text file fix or registry fix, I would highly appreciate it,

It downclocks to save power, nothing you can do about it, when it needs more power it will turn up the clocks.

 

No reason to make it run at full clock speeds if it doesn't have to, it will just produce more heat and use more power.

Well, for me it does matter, as it sometimes happens while I'm playing games as well, which gives me a lot of lag. And the fluctuating gpu usage gives me input lag as well as far as I know. And I really think there is a fix possible in the registry or in a text file for it, because everything is based on text files, so I hope someone will reply that knows a text file change.

The downclocking will be in the gpu bios.

 

Fluctuating gpu issue is the problem, it could be the game, gpu, psu, or drivers try using DDU to uninstall, reinstall the non beta drivers, and try benchmarks like uningine heaven, or 3dmark firestrike, and see if the problem persists, if it does then it is either a gpu/psu issue.

Use Afterburner and increase the power limit to the max.
