Powerline adapter problems

Go to solution Solved by Rhovanor,

Thanks for the reply. I resolved the problems. (Just me being stupid by the way, but the info in the reply can perhaps help other people.)

Hi guys,

Let's start by explaining my setup. My pc is upstairs in my bedroom and my router is downstairs. I have always used powerlines to get internet. (Topcom, PowerLan 200 85Mbps).

Now the problem. Today I bought a new set of powerline adpaters (TP-Link, TL-PA8010 1200Mbps). I expected it to be faster, or at the very least the same, but not slower, as this is what happened.

The 85 Mbps one gave my (avg of 3 tries) 12 ms / 14 up / 19 down.

The new 1200Mbps gives me 10ms / 11 up / 19 down.

Does anyone know what the porblem might be?

Further information: I used the same ports on my router and pc, also I used the same sockets.

Thanks.

I bet it's just a fluke. You're including the variable of your ISP in your testing. You should exclude it instead. You know, speeds vary according to loads on the nodes and servers and routes the packages take, basically the time of the day is a huge factor. Since you can't control those variables, exclude them.

Re-do the tests in your local network only. Ping the router or some other computer in the network and download and upload a huge file off of another computer. By that methodology your only variable will be the adapters and your dataset will be way more comparable. To test your online speeds you have to do the test at varying times to dilute out the effects of congestion. For a week, three times a day eight hours apart from each other trice at a time for instance. It's a huge pain in the ass to set up and do well, but it'll also result in data that you can actually use. I've even gone as far as using data gathered over a month I made a complaint to my customer's ISP and they got their money back.
