What is the best Air or Liquid Cooler that fits in the Corsair 230T

Richywilson

What is the best Air or liquid Cooler that fits in the Corsair 230T case? I've already brought the case and I'd prefer the air cooler to not be over $130NZD
I've been looking on here: https://nz.pcpartpicker.com/

After finding out that the NZXT 41 and Corsair H100i are too big to fit inside the Corsair 230T case I'm wondering what the best liquid cooler that fits inside it is?

A h100i should fit just fine.

What cpu are you cooling?

It doesn't, you have to mount the fans on the top and i'd rather not do that

Different cooling methods have different sub forums... I wanted to see what was best of either.

The point of subforums is to not have everything in one massive unorganized mess and isn't to make a thread in every relevant one.

Look at the links I posted. You can mount the fans on the inside just fine.

The first one mentions that they had to use zip ties and the later doesn't describe anything at all. Given that I've never built before I'm quite uncertain about choosing the h100i http://pcpartpicker.com/b/kYFdnQ#comments

Ah, that I missed. It might be a board-to-board basis but it makes sense to avoid it if not necessary.

6700k, I don't think I'll OC that much. Maybe just to 4.4 or 4.5 but temps on the 212 evo looked like they got in the high 80s when benchmarked, I'd prefer not to touch the 80s at all, my last laptop died due to heat so the cooler the better.

80-90c is fine for load temps and it'll be more difficult to reach high oc's if you expect temps to stay very low.

The NH-U12S is probably your best bet: http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=1821971

A good cheaper alternative is the Pure Rock if you're not adamant about hitting 4.5ghz+ http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=2858162

Is that one better than the  Phanteks PH-TC12DX ? That's what was recommended to me on the part picker forums.

Yes, the NH-U12S is better and much quieter.

If you don't want to spend as much, the SR Slim performs similarly but is much quieter than the PH-TC12DX. http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=2429118

The downside is that it doesn't have as good mounting hardware than either the Noctua or Phanteks and can result in more mixed results if isn't properly mounted.

By the looks of corsairs website the NH-U12s will fit by 7mm. Seems quite tight but if its the best cooler for the job I'll get that. Does it come in different colours or can you paint coolers without negative results because damn it looks like its from 1992 lol

7mm wouldn't be a tight fit but it's doesn't seem like the correct clearance. The NH-U12S is 160mm tall and the case should have 160mm of clearance.

The NH-U12S doesn't come in different colors and the brown and beige are their signature colors and is what makes their products instantly recognizable. What you can is mask off the heatsink and paint the top fin without any negative side effects. I did that here with a NH-D14:

If you don't like the look of the fan, you might as well go with a different cooler to begin with.

Can you tell me what you mean by masking it off? and what the top fin is? But that build looks sweet

By masking, I mean to cover the rest of the heatsink besides the top fin so you don't get paint where it doesn't need to be and hamper the performance.

The heatsink consists of a base, heatpipes, and many metal fins that the fan moves air through. Painting over all these fins could worsen cooling so painting only the top of the heatsink would avoid this issue.

Did putting on the corsair fans instead of the noctua fans hurt its performance/noise

Performance lowered slightly and it wasn't as quiet.
