Since few days my PC keeps crashing when it is under "heavy" load. I tried to diagnose the issue but im puzzled. I think it might be PSU but I'm not sure.

Symptoms:

PC is running fine when it is not under load: browsing pages, watching YT, twitch etc. works just fine.

PC is crashing around every 10min when is under heavy load: When I start any game, after ~10min crash.

There is no BSOD, no error message. There is nothing in Event Viewer except for Critical Error that PC shut down unexpectedly.

PC shut itself down for about 1-2s and afterwards starts up normally.

PC starting to crash few days ago, at first it was crashing 1-2 times during heavy load but it was not constant. After few days the problem became worse and worse to the point when it is crashing now every 10min when I put it under heavy load.

What I tried:

Did CPU stress test in prime95 but it crashed in the same way.

When I ran "Heaven Benchmark" the PC is crashing as well in the same way.

I monitored the temps during benchmark with MSI afterburner but the temps are ok, nothing unusual but maybe I'm missing something.

I swapped GPU and CPU power cables to the spares I had, re-attached the others. Still the same issue. However, afterwards it crashed after 25min. Took a bit longer before it crashed, why? Did the PSU cooldown when it was turned off, which gave me some more time before it overheated?

I have attached 2 example logs from MSI Afterburner when I was running benchmark and it crashed and full PC info from HWinfo. I will try to obtain different PSU from a friend to try to swap it tonight, but if the issue will remain the same, any ideas what else I can check? This is new build which I assembled 2 months ago and it was running without any issues until few days.

PSU: EVGA 750P2

if you wave a overclock this might be causing you problems or if you have a small watt rating in your psu you might be limping your pc performance . if not you can always try going to a friend and testing out with his pc especially if your friend has a skyline cpu like you :) good luck!!

Yeah, sounds like a bad PSU. It's not actually failing, its only 2 months old. It's just a faulty product. EVGA's x2 series (B2, G2, P2) are all very good power supplies, I have an 850W G2, ran SLI in it, had no problems at all. Get a new one under warranty

if ya read the post and the documents included you would see that the CPU is not at fault and that he has plenty more juice to take from in the power supply.

CPU Current: 4217.4 MHz = 42 x 100.4 MHz @ 1.3960 V

I pulled this from the PC.HTM file. If you're running your CPU at 1.4V, that's your problem. I'm surprised you haven't completely cooked your CPU yet. Intel CPUs these days aren't meant to handle that much voltage unless you're running like liquid nitrogen. Which it's pretty safe to assume you're not.

[edit] also, if you messed with your base clock by turning it up, that could play a factor.

[edit] And your hyperthreaded cores are registering very low on percent usage. cores 1 and 2 should be nearly identical. same with 3 and 4, 5 and 6, 7 and 8. weird.

These are the stock/default settings. I reverted everything back to default when the issue started. When I read the OC guides, it says that voltage below 1.4/1.45 is ok. I'm not running liquid ;) Be quiet dark rock pro 3 cooler. Actually when I had the CPU OC to 4.6 it was crashing less often but I cant remember what where the voltages but it was for sure lower than 1.4/1.45 like now. It just crashed randomly when I was typing the reply.  Gotta go to work now. Will swap PSU in the evening and report back

I do give you props sir. However I know not everyone wins the lottery. how about the hyperthreading issue?

This sounds exactly like an unstable overclock or motherboard VRMs getting too hot. Can you let me know what your board is?

You're not supposed to take Skylake past 1.35V iirc so that will degrade your chip fast.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Looks like I was unlucky with my EVGA PSU. I swapped it with borrowed one LEPA G650 MAS and it seems issue is resolved. Ran benchmark for 50min without any crash. Will test some more but yeah, looks like faulty PSU unit. Going to RMA it. I need to return the PSU tomorrow, any recomendations what can I get as temporary replacement?
