Okay working on a new build for someone. I can't decide if I should get an

i5-6500 & RX460

or

13-6100 & RX470

obviously this is a very low end build $500 budget and i know the 2 cores will help a lot with intensive games. but he's going to play stuff like COD, so typically those games are a little more GPU bound. what do you think I should get??

I don't know about the performance on the i3, and I don't know the exact stuff on the i5, but just judging from the i5 6600k, maybe it'd be better to go with the i5 and upgrade the GPU later if it's actually needed? You probably know the requirements on COD, I don't. Just a thought.

Spoiler

Q: Do I have a virus?!
A: If you didn't click a sketchy email, haven't left your computer physically open to attack, haven't downloaded anything sketchy/free, know that your software hasn't been exploited in a new hack, then the answer is: probably not.

Q: What email/VPN should I use?
A: Proton mail and VPN are the best for email and VPNs respectively. (They're free in a good way)

Q: How can I stay anonymous on the (deep/dark) webzz???....

A: By learning how to de-anonymize everyone else; if you can do that, then you know what to do for yourself.

Q: What Linux distro is best for x y z?

A: Lubuntu for things with little processing power, Ubuntu for normal PCs, and if you need to do anything else then it's best if you do the research yourself.

Q: Why is my Linux giving me x y z error?

A: Have you not googled it? Are you sure StackOverflow doesn't have an answer? Does the error tell you what's wrong? If the answer is no to all of those, message me.

looking at the sys req of COD it seems the reccoomnded is slightly more CPU bound. but I agree. a GPU is an easy upgrade. a CPU is a bit more tricky especially for someone who isn't that tech savvy.

I would definitely recommend the i3 6100 & RX 470. Games like COD don't really rely on the CPU, and unless your friend is going to stream and record and stuff like that, than I would go with the beefier GPU. Also, remind your friend to play at 1080p, as the 470 is really designed to be the 1080p sweet spot.

Look.. games are mostly depends on your GPU and its evolving so fast.
Getting the i3 with 2 core and when a new powerful gpu is released and new AAA games is released too..
u need to upgrade your gpu into the next level.. and bang. your 2 core cpu will bottleneck your system.

very true. I think i'm going to try to convince him to spend about $100 more and get the i5-6400 & RX470. I don't think he'll actually upgrade anything himself, hes a console scrub. but if he ever does thats the best combo

I always recommend gpu before cpu, but also always quad-core before dual-core. Honestly, usually upgrading a cpu ends up being more costly than upgrading a gpu due to the quicker life cycles of GPUs.

So in conclusion I would suggest getting the i5 with the rx460, despite this probably being the unpopular choice.

PC: AMD Ryzen 7 7700 || Noctua NH-U12S SE2 || 32GB DDR5 6000 CL32  ||

its a budget build my freind. its easily upgradable to 16GB of ram, an SSD, plenty other spaces for storage, fans, coolers, etc. its all you need without having to sell a part to upgrade.
