This is kind of hard to answer without knowing anything else about your system. I'd say 980 Ti or 1080, but the CPU can really hold back FPS on some games.

What's your budget?

EDIT: Also, is your monitor capable of 100 FPS? I run a 2560x1600 off a 660 Ti and it gets 50-60 on most games.

just out of curiosity- why do you want to run at 100fps? what are you playing?

the general consensus seems to be a GTX 1070 for 1440p gameplay, but your mileage may vary depending on CPU and other such considerations

980

R9 Fury X

980 ti

RX 480

R9 295X2

the old Titan

just some suggestions, but again, CPU does matter

Those are both good, but there are other solutions out there -  but its more of a preference thing. 1070 will handle those types of games handily, but you may want to play something more demanding in future so the 1080 would be great especially oc out the box

What games and settings do you play at where you get 50-60 FPS at that resolution? My R9 290 can barely do 1080p 60FPS max settings.

Well I am getting a core I7 6700K

And I plan to play e-sports type games. I was planning on getting an Asus strix 1080 oc.

Seeing as it is a 34 inch monitor, is it an ultra wide?

Have you played the Witcher 3 at 1440p (Max settings, no droplets) and got even close to 100 fps with a 1080, regularly? Because benchmarks show its below 90, around the 80's. Lets not even mention other heavy titles such as Rise of the Tomb Raider or GTA V with graphical modding. Well actually its below the 60's, so ill give a sin to my foot for that. Heres some overview of what i meant:

Sure, you can use the glorious G-Sync (if the monitor allows it for such), for a smoother experience, but still nowhere near close to the real experience of 100+ frames, usually 120+ or 144+. Okay he didnt say "Maxed out settings" on most games, but at such framerates, the 1080 yelds close or higher than those at 1080p, which is why i questioned.

Btw, theres a difference between max graphical settings with and without anti-aliasing and other texture enhancing options, which are "optional".

Generally high-ultra with no anti-aliasing generally. Slightly older games, as I'm getting old and have no more money for video games. Tropico 5, Just Cause 3 (albeit on medium-high settings), Arma 3, but that's a crapshoot depending on the server. In single player it plugs along at Ultra at 55-60 FPS no problems.

TIL I don't play any demanding games. And I don't mind a slight drop in visual fidelity for a few more FPS.
