I have a gtx 950.

So when I first got my rig,(June 2016), I downloaded GeForce experience, and all the drivers it said I needed. I was able to play games fine and record using shadow play no problem. Now however, the new GeForce experience update just came out, and I have been having trouble ever since updating.

Problem 1: I will launch a game and my entire computer will lag, the nvidia things in the corner will pop up (fps counter, "press alt-z to record"). I know it is not that my computer is to weak because I could open those games up fine before.

Problem 2: once in game, if I press alt-z and hit record, or just hit the record hotkey, my game instantly goes down to 29 fps. (I was playing csgo and getting 300fps). Even on a menu screen I get 29fps

Problem 3: once I have hit record , my screen glitches out (like an old dusty monitor) even when I am on chrome. I discovered this was caused by "Nvidia share" because once I close it in the task manager everything is fine.

I tried restarting computer--that doesn't work.

All my drivers are updated.

I am not sure what the problem is and anything could help.

Thanks

No settings are set to 60fps. Also it messes up even if I never press record. Just once I open it.

Update: I discovered that my screen was lagging and stuff when not in game because I had "instant replay on"

Turning that off made a difference.

However, it still doesn't work in game

I will try to be as objective as possible while still disclosing the fact that this is an opinion.

Nvidia suck at value. They will happily charge more for SLI (about $30) and Gsync ($200)

Nvidia suck at keeping their older cards performing as they should. They have been hammered with claims of planned obsolescence and one has to wonder if they're true.

They do mediocre jobs in other places, for instance the whole founders edition thing, or the bit about the 1080 keeping at 67 degrees overclocked. Their drivers are also kind of bad.

OP, I recommend using OBS if you want to record, it will give you a lot of power. And when you download the nvidia drivers, get version 362.00 since any version past that does not give any better performance for a GTX 950. And don't download the 3DVision stuff, it's been known to interfere with the driver sometimes and it's unnecessary.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

I've used both OBS and Nvidia Share (the new ShadowPlay)... and Share is way less resource intensive than OBS in all my tests.

Did you just do an Express update on your GPU driver updates? I'd recommend uninstalling and re-installing it cleanly. Also in Nvidia Control Panel, set the power configuration to favor performance and make sure you reset your PhysX to use your GPU after each driver update.

i used shadowplay alot, it worked, all was good. The new Geforce 3 update on the other hand does not work as intended. The overlays are working, if i press the buttons to capture the last minutes or record future stuff, it is saying that it was successfull, but it isnt. This is really annoying. I hope to stumble across a fix anytime soon. As from my perspective there are not many similar cases discussed online.

I belive the 30 fps thing is related to the buildt in Windows 10 recording thingy, xbox app

What's this thing about 1080 at 67 degrees?  I mean what are you referring to?

When the 1080 Founders Edition launched, Nvidia decided to showcase it running at 67 degrees at its maximum overclock of 2050MHz. Later on when reviews came about, it turned out that the 1080 FE cooler actually couldn't keep it from thermal throttling and Nvidia had achieved the 67C temperature by running the fan at 100%, which made it sound like a jet engine (much like the reference HD 6990, google that to hear the sounds of hell).

That was certainly a silly thing that Nvidia did, but at least they didn't release a new generation that was worse clock for clock than the previous xD

I thought my old 970 was a bit loud but I'll take your word that is much worse.  lol

It was silly.  No one is going to want their GPU fan to have to run at 100% to get advertised temps at the expense of your ears.

  • 1 month later...

So I just updated Nvidia Geforce Experience. The new layout is different, shadowplay is different and all the menus are differnt. But that doesn't matter. Whenever I try to record games my frames instantly drop down to 30fps and stay there. The game becomes super choppy and laggy. I have 1080p 60fps selected, but I still get dropped to 30fps. I can run games fine at over 60fps, and even If i try and record at 720p I still get pushed down to 30fps. Does anyone know a solution?

Thanks
