I keep reading that Crysis is the game to compare because its so demanding.

My ventures today came to a youboob video of a server. I skipped it cuz of the DDR2 and the price. Found something better. But the vid was interesting.

G4 specs

G5 specs

Up to 2, Intel Xeon 5100, 5200, or 5400

  • DIMM Slots: 8
  • Maximum Capacity: 64GB
  • Memory Type: DDR2 PC2-5300 Fully Buffered
  • Maximum Memory Speed: 667 MHz

Who knows what the guy used for a GPU. Isnt that crazy, outside the norm of what a PC "should" look like, even though this is a server.

Comments show he is using a nvidia quadro

Considering on a lone Xeon X5450+6GB  DDR2 800 I could play Crysis 3 at 60fps with my GTX 970....

Yes those Xeon X5??? are awesome.

I found some with E55?? $30,  $90 and more at $150.

I should look into it more.

So they got a PCIe x16 slot do they?

It depends on the motherboard. Anything LGA775/771 is a classic CPU, with nothing integrated into it, but the motherboards for the most part have at least the 1 PCIE x16 slot, if not more for the Crossfire and SLI compatible boards. TBH for gaming, a good water cooler+motherboard with support for the LGA775 to 771 socket mod and a Xeon X5450/E5450/X5470 is the way to go, with content creation being far better on dual Xeons (and if you use 2x X5470 with the BSEL mod, you can run them both at 4GHz and beat the 5 years newer FX 8350 single and multithreaded quite easily)
