Since Sky Lake and Kaby Lake are using the same socket, if I get a 6700k now will I be able to put that in a Kaby Lake board later on and take advantage of it's standard USB 3.1 and faster supported RAM speeds? I need a new CPU soon and I'm not sure if I can hold out for the 7700k, but I don't need a new motherboard in the same time frame.

I spend too much on my PC. Then I spend even more on my Sim Rig. Damn, this stuff's expensive.

why do you need a new CPU tho? anyway that should work fine, just like putting a 4770k in a Z97 board, should be fine

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler

Why the need for the new CPU though?

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

GTA V and Forza Horizon 3 both are multi-threaded CPU hogs when you specifically try to run them with all the graphics turned up at 1440p and higher resolutions (I'm guessing it's draw call related since they are both DX11). a 6600k bottlenecks them, a 6700k doesn't because of the extra threads. Since I play a ton of GTA V and the Forza series (which I'm so glad Forza is on the PC now) I can justify the upgrade, and since the fame drops below 60 are so annoying to me I'm ready to make it a high enough priority to get a 6700k this week.

Ok. Then just get a 6700K. No need to wait for the 7700K since that will come in many months as the desktop CPUs come much later than the Ultrabook CPUs.

kay just wanted to know becuse overclocking your 6600K would be the first thing i would do tbh, but if it needs the threads then sure
