I have an old lenovo y560 with switchable graphics and until I can get new pc I would like it to last as long as possible. I was going to update graphics drivers but I read that I should use only drivers from lenovo site, and not newer drivers from amd site, because only they are compatible with laptop. Is it true? And if not, what's the best way to update drivers?

if the newer drivers are compatible w/ the graphics card used they shud be fine , lenovo has custom drivers wich are optimized for battery life and so on , so thats that

RyzenAir : AMD R5 3600 | AsRock AB350M Pro4 | 32gb Aegis DDR4 3000 | GTX 1070 FE | Fractal Design Node 804
RyzenITX : Ryzen 7 1700 | GA-AB350N-Gaming WIFI | 16gb DDR4 2666 | GTX 1060 | Cougar QBX

PSU Tier list

You can install the drivers from AMD's website just fine, but Lenovo might offer specific optimizations for their particular build. Generic drivers will likely work just fine.

The best way to update the drivers is to remove them using DDU, and then install the new version. But since that's not entirely realistic, installing over the current version will suffice.

A couple of months ago I did that using AMD autodetect (detects the best driver for my device) and after installation I could play games, Skyrim for example, only on intel. When I looked in Skyrim options, it didn't even detect AMD.
