Do i need to reinstall windows when changing motherboard

I'm basically just upgrading to a motherboard with a 1151 socket, they are both asus.

While it might work just fine, it's always a better idea to do a fresh install if you are swapping mobos.

If you have the windows 10 upgrade you need to get your product ID and contact microsoft to activate it again.

No, but you'll most likely have to give Microsoft a call and explain your situation to them so that they can re-activate your license on the new mobo (which, by their definition, counts as a new PC).

With a smartphone, you don't even have to talk to a person, it is just copying, and pasting numbers, super simple process to reactivate.

Funny thing I just did this recently, by recent 2 days ago! YES and NO, If you have a OEM Key for windows you cannot re-activate it on the new system upgrade. If you do not have an OEM key yes you can, there are a bunch of tutorials on youtube (ill find the one I used becaused it worked).

 

 

EDIT: The way im suggesting is by not having to reinstall windows.
